Metairie -- Fox's hit TV show "Glee" inspired some Metairie high school students to enter a contest that made them number one on a nationwide stage. The Haynes Academy choral students belted out their best Glee-like performance in a video posted on YouTube. YouTube: "Haynes Academy Classroom Musical" The syndicated radio show Kidd Kraddick in the morning was looking for the best classroom musical video in the Glee style.The winner gets $1500 for a classrroom makeover.Haynes beat out all the competition in the high school category nationwide.

For the first time this year, letter grades instead of star ratings accompany performance scores. The state calculates school performance scores using a combination of standardized test scores and attendance rates. A plus sign indicates a school has improved enough to meet its 2011 assigned growth target.
