DRESS POLICY AT HAYNES ACADEMY

                The student dress code is established to teach students the importance of grooming and hygiene, to instill discipline, to prevent disruption in the educational environment, to create a sense of safety, and to teach students respect for themselves and others.  It establishes an appropriate and equitable atmosphere for learning, free from distraction or conflict.  Uniforms reduce clothing costs and encourage a sense of school identity and pride.  All students must wear uniforms that are properly fitted and clean. In addition to the Parish-Wide Procedures and Policies for Parents and Students Dress Policy, the following dress regulations will be in effect on the first day of school:

Boy’s High School Uniform

Black or khaki uniform pants

Solid colored khaki web belt or black leather belt

White short or long-sleeved oxford button-down shirt with Haynes High School logo*

Plain short-sleeved white undershirt, if undershirt is worn

Black V-neck or cardigan sweater with Haynes High School Logo*

Solid colored black, brown, white, or tan hard soled shoes or solid colored black, brown, or white tennis shoes.  Laces must be the same or coordinating solid color.  Tennis shoes must have non-marking soles.

Solid colored black or white socks

Girls High School Uniform

Black or khaki uniform pant or the Haynes plaid skirt

Khaki web belt or black leather belt

White short or long-sleeved oxford shirt with Haynes High School logo*

Plain short-sleeved white undershirt if undershirt is worn

*The 2009-2010 will be a transitional year for High School uniforms. High school students may wear the black, white, or ash knit polo shirt with the Haynes High School logo and the black or grey sweatshirts with the Haynes logo for one year.  High school girls may wear khaki skirts for the 2009-2010 year.  All entering 9th grade students will be required to wear the new Haynes High School uniform for 2009-2010 school year.  The new uniform will be required for all high school students for the 2010-2011 year.

Shirts:  The shirt must be tucked into the pants or skirt; not rolled.  Only plain short-sleeved white undershirts may be worn under the uniform shirt.  Long-sleeved undershirts may not be worn under the short-sleeved oxford shirt.  Class shirts may only be worn on announced or specified days.

Pants:  Boys must wear uniform khaki or uniform black pants.  Girls may wear uniform khaki pants, uniform black pants, or the Haynes plaid skirt. Students are required to wear belts with the pants.  Decorative or large belt buckles may not be worn.  The belt and/or waistband of the skirt must be visible.  Pants are to be worn at the waist. The waist is defined as a line circling the body which is level with the belly-button. Excessively baggy pants, cargo pants, or pants with pockets sewn on the outside of the pants are prohibited.   Jeans are not uniform pants.  Knit pants, sweatpants, and leggings may not be worn as the uniform pant nor may they be worn underneath the skirt.  Skirts must be no shorter than two inches above the knee.

Shoes and Socks:  Only tennis shoes, top-siders, or hard-soled shoes may be worn.  No backless shoes, boots, high heels, platform shoes, moccasins, slippers, or flip flops may be worn.   Socks must be solid white or black.  Girls may wear natural, black, or white stockings or footed leggings when weather is cold.  No footless or angle-length leggings, sweatpants, stretch, spandex, or exercise pants, fishnet stockings, lace stockings, or brightly colored tights may be worn.

Outerwear:  Students may wear the grey sweatshirts with the Haynes logo or a Haynes club, class, or team sweatshirt/jacket that has been approved by administration.  Coats and sweatshirts may only be worn outdoors and only when the weather is cold.  They must be worn over the school sweater.  Outwear may not be worn in the classrooms and must also be free of logos, team names, writings and/or pictures.

Students ID’s:  Students must wear the Haynes student ID every day.  The ID is to be attached to a Haynes lanyard and worn around the neck.  If a student looses his/her ID or leaves it at home, a temporary ID must be purchased for that day.  A student must report to the office during homeroom to purchase an ID or he/she will receive a lunch detention.  If the student cannot locate the ID, a new, permanent ID must be purchased.  Temporary and new ID debts will be considered financial obligations of the students.  A student may not alter apply stickers, or deface his/her ID.

Book Bags:  Only clear, see-through or mesh book bags, tote bags, or back packs are permitted.  Girls may carry a small purse.  Excessively large purses, athletic bags, or luggage containing costumes or items need for a special event or class, must be left with the sponsoring moderator/teacher before homeroom and may be picked up after school or upon leaving for an event or game.  No other bags are allowed.

The uniform can be obtained from Fashion Arcade, Johnson's Uniforms, Uniforms by Kajan, Schiro's, Schumacher's, and Uniformity.

 

1.             No hats, bandanas, visors, ear muffs, extreme hair accessories, or caps may be worn at any time.  Knit caps and hooded sweatshirts may be worn outdoors on cold winter days only.

2.             No hair picks, rakes, combs, or large hair sticks/pens may be brought to school.

3.             Pierced earrings may be worn, however no nose rings, tongue rings/studs, or other body piercing jewelry may be worn.

4.             No gloves may be worn indoors.

5.             No sunglasses may be worn indoors.

6.             No clothing with holes in it may be worn.

7.             No hair rollers, hair nets, or shower caps may be worn.

8.             No long earrings or earrings that are of such a nature that they may cause injury may be worn.

9.             Jewelry/chains/medallions/rings/watches which are long/expensive and/or family relics are not to be worn to school.

10.           No toys, games, playing or trading cards are permitted.

11.           Radios, tape players, cameras, recording devices, iPods, mp3 players, beepers, cellular phones, laser pointers, or other such devices are not permitted.

12.           A student must use appropriate grooming techniques and good hygiene.  Hair must not impair his/her sight and may not be extreme in style or color.

13.           Dress code for dances will follow Jefferson Parish Guidelines.

14.           Dress code guidelines for dress down days will be provided by the sponsor of the event prior to the dress down event  No article of clothing or accessory that is forbidden on any regular school day may be worn on dress down days unless specifically announced and approved by the principal before the event.

DRESS CODE VIOLATIONS

                The following actions will be taken for any student who fails to comply with the dress code for Haynes Academy and the Jefferson Parish Public School System. Student must immediately correct any violation with uniform code and/or the student will call home for a change of clothes that are in compliance with the uniform code. 

*              1st Violation:          Behavior Report and detention

                *              2nd Violation:         Referral and Parental Conference

                *              3rd Violation:          Suspension


Middle School Haynes Dress Policy

In addition to the Parish-Wide Procedures and Policies for Parents and Students Dress Policy, the following dress regulations will be in effect on the first day of school:

Boy’s Middle School Uniform

  • Khaki uniform pants
  • Solid khaki web belt or black leather belt
  • Black, white, or ash knit polo shirt with Haynes Middle School Logo
  • Plain short-sleeved white, grey, black, or yellow T-shirts may be worn under the uniform shirt.
  • Black or grey sweatshirts with the Haynes logo or Haynes team, club, or activity sweatshirts approved by the Principal
  • Solid colored black, brown, white, or tan hard soled shoes or tennis shoes.  Laces must be the same or coordinating solid color.  Tennis shoes must have white, clear, or non-marking soles
  • Solid colored black or white socks

 Girls Middle School Uniform

  • Plain short-sleeved white, grey, black, or yellow T-shirts may be worn under the uniform shirt.

  • Solid colored black, brown, white, or tan hard soled shoes or tennis shoes.  Laces must be the same or coordinating color.  Tennis shoes must have white, clear, or non-marking soles.
  • Solid colored black or white socks
