Food Fest is just around the corner and we are
looking for families or clubs that would like to sponsor a food table (Vietnam,
Pakistan, Gremany, Iran or whatever country you would like to sponsor).
The food fest will consist of 16-18 tables that feature the cuisine of a
particular country. The food may be prepared by you, or purchased or
donated by area restaurants. The school will provide the table, paper products
and cutlery, as well as two chaffing racks with sterno on the night of the
event. All you have to do is show up with the food.
The Food Fest is a well attended event each year
and is a wonderful opportunity to get to know the Haynes Community. Even
better, all of the proceeds go toward the support of the various clubs
and organizations at Haynes Academy.

For those students currently attending Haynes who live outside of Jefferson Parish, Interdistrict Transfer and Permission forms are now available to print out from the Jefferson Parish Public School System website: www.jppss.k12.la.us. Please look under the "Parent News" on the front page and click on "Transfer request forms for 2012-13 now available." Please adhere to the requirements and deadlines to turn in your forms for your child to the appropriate office. Call the school if you have any questions or problems.
]]>Free DVDs are now available of the Superintendent's "A" Breakfast of Champions which was held on February 29, 2012 at Bonnabel HS. These DVDs were distributed in homerooms last week. If your child attended the breakfast and did not receive one, or was absent, or if you would like an additional copy, please contact the school office at 837-8300. ]]>The Academic Games Leagues of America is proud to announce that Haynes Academy Seniors Ridwan Syed and Dustin Wright were presented the Outstanding Senior Award at the AGLOA National Tournament in Wheeling, WV on Monday, April 30.
The Outstanding Senior Award is a national recognition given to graduating seniors who have enviable competition records and have given of themselves to promote the spirit of Academic Games in their own schools and leagues. These individuals exhibit the highest qualities of character and sportsmanship.

]]>We, Shawn Puleo and Senthil Natarajan, two Juniors at Haynes Academy, are honored to announce the culmination of our vision and work towards a project that has been very special to us. This Friday, March 16, 2012, will mark the commencement of our MILES program. Succinctly described:
“MILES is a leadership seminar for underclassmen (9th and 10th grades) in the Greater New Orleans area. The vision of MILES is to be able to empower the Greater New Orleans youth to stand up and be as influential and vocal in their community as their older counterparts. Before they embark on their respective journeys, the students are the ones with the power to effect change.”
We would be privileged if you could attend the Inauguration of MILES this Friday the 16th at 2:45 and partake in an event which will signify the birth of a bona fide program for which the entire community can be proud for years to come.

Therefore, students DO NOT ATTEND school on March 26. Parent conferences will be held from 4:30pm - 7:30pm on March 26. April 9 will be a REGULAR school day for all students. This is the beginning of Stardardized Testing Week and will allow for a regular schedule for students for the week.

]]>The Haynes Academy Swim Team competed on Friday and Saturday, November
18th and 19th, in the 2011 Louisiana State High School Swimming
Championships. This is the first year for Haynes Swimming, and we already have 2 state-qualifiers and a State Champion!

"Glee" inspired some Metairie high school students to enter a contest
that made them number one on a nationwide stage.
The Haynes Academy choral students belted out their best Glee-like performance
in a video posted on YouTube. YouTube: "Haynes
Academy Classroom Musical" The syndicated radio show Kidd Kraddick in the morning was looking for the best
classroom musical video in the Glee style.The winner gets $1500 for a classrroom makeover.Haynes beat out all the competition in the high school category nationwide.

The 6th annual gala “Making a Difference” is fast approaching (April 2nd) and we need all the support we can get. As you are all aware we have a wonderful student and parent community, catered by a well established and highly motivated and dedicated faculty.
The main objective of the Gala for the past three years has been supporting this wonderful faculty in ways other than what the school system supports them. We do not need to impress upon you how much time, energy and their own resources that these teachers spend to make sure that OUR KIDS get the best. With the limited funding from the school system, they can only go so far. That is where our flag ship event every year , THE GALA, comes in and raise funds for them to help meet some of their needs. we also helped most of our teaching staff by providing assistance in the cost of continuing education for our teachers during the summer.
We have almost raised nearly $30,000.00 for our teacher grant program every year so far and we hope to keep continuing the tradition and getting bigger. We are the No. 1 school in the Parish and No.2 in the state. We can get better and keep all this sustained, but we need some help to make this happen. Please take a moment to think through this and see how you can help this HAYNES community. This is OUR FAMILY and we all need to play an active part in getting this community bigger and better. We need to leave a legacy behind.
This will all be possible only with the generous help and outreach of all you parents. Please open up your hearts and pockets and think where else all this is possible in a public system. Let us take pride in our HAYNES FAMILY and help them out. We are attaching the ticket form for this year's GALA. Please do your maximum possible and come forward be a part of this great evening. I am sure I have not seen a lot of you there. But once you get there once you will understand what a great evening you had and fun filled event you were part of.

The Jefferson Parish School Board will conduct a meeting on February 23, 2011 at 5 p.m. on the Bonnabel High School campus to discuss proposed changes to the admissions process that would apply to the 2011 – 2012 school year and beyond. Once officially approved by our School Board, the application period and an outline of the entire process will be announced and posted shortly after the meeting on February 23, 2011. To the parents/guardians of Haynes Academy students:
Welcome to the beginning of a new school year. We eagerly anticipate a great year of learning and activities. During the summer, Haynes campus underwent some major renovations – some of which are still being completed. Students will find new floors in every building, a new roof and floor in the cafeteria, and a new floor in the library.
Due to construction delays, many of our classrooms are still being completed and our gym is being used for storage. Unfortunately, we will be unable to hold our usual beginning of the year Orientation. Schedules will be available to pick up in the office beginning Monday, August 9 or they can be viewed on your home computer on the Parent Portal at that time as well. Please take advantage of this great tool to keep track of your child’s schedule, attendance, and grades throughout the year. Stop by the office with a photo ID if you would like to sign-up for this service.
Bus transportation is provided by JPPSS for all of our East Bank Jefferson Parish students. A bus driver should contact you prior to the start of school. If you are not sure of your bus assignment, there will be a bus driver call center in effect from August 2-6 at 349-8999.
Free and reduced meal applications will be mailed to your home address. Even if your family qualified for these services last year, you will need to complete a new application for 2010-11. Please fill out the form and return it to your homeroom teacher as soon as possible.
After-school child care is available from 2:40-6:00 pm. Community Education After-care forms are available in the office now. We encourage all parents to sign up for this program in case of an emergency. There is a $20.00 registration fee which must be paid before a student can attend. This covers the registration and insurance for the entire year. There are weekly fees if your child needs to stay after school regularly or you may use it on an “as needed” basis for a small daily fee.
Please contact the office if you have any other questions or concerns. You are always welcome to stop by campus for a visit. Thank you for your continued support of Haynes Academy and your child’s success.
